2009 National Women’s Health Week – May 10 – May 16
The 10th annual National Women's Health Week will kick off on Mother's
Day, May 10, 2009 and will be celebrated until May 16, 2009. National
Women's Checkup Day will be Monday, May 11, 2009. National Women's
Health Week is a weeklong health observance coordinated by the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women's Health (OWH).
National Women's Health Week empowers women to make their health a top
priority. With the theme "It's Your Time," the nationwide initiative
encourages women to take simple steps for a longer, healthier, and

The 9th annual National

Institutions Established in Second Round of Specialized Centers of
Research on Sex/Gender Factors Affecting Women's Health
The National Institutes of Health Office of Research on
Women’s Health announces 11 new or continuing Specialized Center of
Research on Sex and Gender Factors Affecting Women’s Health Awards, as a
result of the second solicitation for this program. Funding for these
SCORs will total approximately $11 million per year for five years. To

Health Symposium “Remembering Our Health” to be held at Coppin State
University in Baltimore on November 3, 2007
The Women’s Health Symposium will be held on Saturday,
November 3, 2007 from 7:30 am - 5:00 pm at Coppin State University in
Baltimore. Sponsors for the Symposium include: The BET Foundation,
General Mills, and MERCK in partnership with Coppin State University and
the Supernatural Woman Conference, Inc. This event is free to the
public but registration is required and seating is limited. Registration
includes moderated panel discussions, workshops, seminars, health

Statement from the National Cancer Institute on FDA
Approval of the HPV Vaccine
Summary: On June 8, 2006 the National
Cancer Institute posted a press release announcing the approval by the
Food and Drug Administration of the vaccine GardasilTM, which protects
against infection from the two types of human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV
is the cause of the majority of cervical cancers worldwide.
