•    11 Institutions Established in Second Round of Specialized Centers of Research on Sex/Gender Factors Affecting Women's Health 

The National Institutes of Health Office of Research on Women’s Health announces 11 new or continuing Specialized Center of Research on Sex and Gender Factors Affecting Women’s Health Awards, as a result of the second solicitation for this program. •    Women’s Health Symposium “Remembering Our Health” to be held at Coppin State University in Baltimore on November 3, 2007 

The Women’s Health Symposium will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2007 from 7:30 am - 5:00 pm at Coppin State University in Baltimore. Sponsors for the Symposium include: The BET Foundation, General Mills, and MERCK in partnership with Coppin State University and the Supernatural Woman Conference, Inc.  This event is free to the public but registration is required and seating is limited. Registration includes moderated panel discussions, workshops, seminars, health screenings, breakfast refreshments, lunch and special gifts.  For more information, please click here.

       Statement from the National Cancer Institute on FDA Approval of the HPV Vaccine 

Summary:  On June 8, 2006 the National Cancer Institute posted a press release announcing the approval by the Food and Drug Administration of the vaccine GardasilTM, which protects against infection from the two types of human papillomavirus (HPV).  HPV is the cause of the majority of cervical cancers worldwide.
